I think The Game’s Jesus Piece album cover is blasphemy at its finest. The album’s song titles, such as Jesus Piece, Hallelujah & Pray appear to further encourage distaste of Christian beliefs. Its fair to assume the lyrics won’t be praising God.
I wonder what Lecrae thought about it. He reached out to The Game via text message according to RapZilla. According to the article, they had a text conversation. Below is a quote from Game about the conversation.
“I wouldn’t even call it “getting my Lecrae on”. Lecrae texted me the other day out of the blue – I don’t even know where he got my number from. I know of him, just never met him. And, he was sort of concerned with the way that some of the lyrics were coming across, and the portrayal of Jesus on the cover. But, after we finished having an in-depth text conversation; I explained my vision and what I was doing, and at the end of the text we didn’t necessarily agree but I told him good luck on his path and he wished me good luck on mine.”
The Bible talks about sharing the spiritual truth. In Ephesians 4:15, Paul said, “But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ”. It’s our job as Christians to share what we know about our Savior. Maybe Lecrae planted a seed…hopefully watered one. Either way, the album cover is disrespectful to Christians and deserved to be, at the very least, discussed. Is it money motivated? Is mocking Jesus blasphemy? What do you think?
